π§ Ingredients
For the Bread Dough:
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) instant yeast
¼ cup sugar
½ tsp salt
½ cup warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)
¼ cup warm water
1 large egg
¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
For the Custard Filling:
1 cup milk
2 egg yolks
¼ cup sugar
2 tbsp cornstarch
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp butter
For Brushing:
1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
Optional: powdered sugar for dusting

1. Make the Custard:
In a small saucepan, whisk together egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch.
Slowly add milk while whisking to avoid lumps.
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened (about 5 minutes).
Remove from heat, stir in butter and vanilla.
Let cool completely before using.
2. Make the Dough:
In a large bowl, combine warm milk, water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
Add egg, butter, and salt. Mix well.
Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
3. Assemble the Bread:
Punch down the dough and divide into 8–10 equal pieces.
Flatten each piece into a small circle.
Spoon about 1 tablespoon of custard into the center.
Pinch the edges to seal and shape into a ball (seam side down).
Place on a parchment-lined baking tray.
Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
4. Bake:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Brush the tops with beaten egg.
Bake for 15–18 minutes or until golden brown.
Cool slightly before serving.
