Apple Crisp


Ingredients:
For the filling:
6 cups peeled, cored, and sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon lemon juice
2 teaspoons cornstarch
For the topping:
1 cup old-fashioned oats
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
Instructions:
Preheat oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish lightly with butter or cooking spray.
Prepare the filling:
In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch until evenly coated. Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
Make the topping:
In another bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the cold butter pieces and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the topping resembles coarse crumbs.
Assemble:
Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apple mixture.
Bake:
Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
Serve:
Let cool slightly before serving. Delicious on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
