If you’re craving a cozy, soul-warming dinner that tastes like a hug from the South, this trio delivers every time. Crispy seasoned wings, creamy red beans, fluffy rice, and golden skillet cornbread… it’s the kind of meal that makes everyone fall silent at the table (because they’re too busy eating).
π ingredients:
CHICKEN WINGS
• 2 lb chicken wings
• 2 tbsp olive oil
• 1 tbsp paprika
• 1 tsp garlic powder
• 1 tsp onion powder
• 1 tsp Cajun seasoning
• 1 tsp salt
• 1/2 tsp black pepper
• Optional: 2 tbsp hot sauce or 1 tbsp honey
RED BEANS & RICE
• 1 cup long-grain rice
• 1 tbsp oil or butter
• 1 onion, diced
• 1 green pepper, diced
• 2 cloves garlic, minced
• 1 can red kidney beans, drained
• 1 tsp paprika
• 1 tsp Cajun seasoning
• 1/2 tsp thyme
• Salt & pepper, to taste
• 1–1.5 cups chicken broth
• Optional: sliced smoked sausage or smoked turkey
CORNBREAD
• 1 cup cornmeal
• 1 cup flour
• 1/4 cup sugar
• 1 tbsp baking powder
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 1 cup buttermilk
• 2 eggs
• 1/3 cup melted butter
• 1–2 tbsp butter for the skillet

make the wings
Pat wings dry and toss with olive oil + all seasonings. Bake or air-fry at 220°C/425°F for 35–45 minutes, flipping halfway. For extra flavor, glaze with a little hot sauce or honey in the last 5 minutes.
cook the red beans & rice
Cook rice separately. In a skillet, sautΓ© onion, pepper, and garlic until soft. Add beans, seasonings, and broth. Simmer 10–15 minutes until creamy. Fold in smoked sausage if using. Serve over hot rice.
whip up the cornbread
Heat oven to 220°C/425°F and warm a buttered cast-iron skillet. Mix dry ingredients in one bowl, wet in another, then combine. Pour batter into the hot skillet and bake 18–22 minutes until golden and crisp around the edges.

Plate up wings, spoon on those creamy red beans & rice, and add a big buttery slice of cornbread.
